Talk to SAM!! New Zealand gets world’s first AI politician

Uncategorized November 27, 2017

Nick Gerritsen, a New Zealand based entrepreneur has developed the world’s first artificial intelligence politician ‘SAM’, expecting the bot to run in the country’s general elections in 2020.

SAM can answer a person’s queries regarding local issues such as policies around housing, education and immigration.

While the system is not perfect, it may still help bridge the growing political and cultural divide in many countries, ‘Tech In Asia’ reported.

By late 2020, when New Zealand has its next general election, Gerritsen believes SAM will be advanced enough to run as a candidate.

“There is a lot of bias in the ‘analogue’ practice of politics right now,” said Gerritsen.

“There seems to be so much existing bias that countries around the world seem unable to address fundamental and multiple complex issues like climate change and equality,” he said.

While Gerritsen acknowledges that humans biases can creep into algorithms, he said that he does not view bias as just a challenge to technology solutions

However, it is not legal for AI to contest elections.

Uncategorized November 19, 2017

iDeal-Classifieds-Firefox-Quantum Mozilla has been quietly sitting on the sidelines for a while, content to slowly work on improving Firefox. Mozilla says its new browser uses less memory than its rivals, and has been designed to help people get things done a lot more quickly. The browser maker also dumped Yahoo as Firefox’s default search engine in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere, to return to Google, its partner – and primary financier – before a falling out three years ago. In a demonstration video, an iPhone X is shown unlocking for both the mask and the person it’s based on. Microsoft and Amazon alliances to integrate Alexa and Cortana digital assistance, puts Google under pressure

Uncategorized October 14, 2017

Google-Amazon-Partnership-iDeal-Classifieds Microsoft and Amazon announced a surprise partnership on Thursday in which they were jointly releasing for free a new software tool for developers called Gluon. Gluon makes it easier for developers to build AI systems, but if we look at this partnership of Amazon and Microsoft its interesting that it challenges Google in its big area of dominance for Google Now. Amazon and Microsoft are partnering to improved integration of their Alexa and Cortana digital assistants. After this, Alexa users will be able to access Cortana, and vice versa on a range of devices, although the first step in this integration is rather clunky. Amazon Echo users have to say, “Alexa, open Cortana,” while Microsoft users have to say, “Cortana, open Alexa.” It appears that both companies have simply created skills on each others platforms to enable the basic integration.
